Day Ten: The Fire Sings

eyes unblinking
limbs not twitching
staring into the fires
gathered ’round,
sit the poets, sit the jesters

pink and yellow are the flames
sweet and sad like the summer’s fest day gone past

eyes unblinking
limbs not twitching
staring into the fires
gathered ’round,
sit the dreamers, sit the liars

blue and purple are the flames
clinging smoke rising up to the night sky, dissipating

eyes unblinking
limbs not twitching
staring into the fires
gathered ’round,
sit the reapers, sit the mothers

brown and green are the flames
the earth mother’s love of life and death

eyes unblinking
limbs not twitching
staring into the fires
gathered ’round
sit the mourning widow, and man’s best friend left behind

black and grey are the flames
sorrow unquenched, a thousand tears never shed

eyes unblinking
limbs not twitching
staring into the fires
gathered ’round
sit the lovers, sit the murderers

red and orange are the flames
passions burning, cold and hot on the skin and in the heart

eyes unblinking
limbs not twitching
staring into the fires
gathered ’round
sit the children

white are the flames
innocent, untouchable

hear the collective sigh as the embers die,
as the fire no longer sings.

Loved working with this prompt from my friend, colorful fire/flames. I feel like I could have tightened it a bit more but I rather like it even now. Enjoy and of course, thank you for reading!
